Oh, the irony. In Turkey's vote on whether to allow U.S. troops to attack Iraq from their country, 264 legislators voted for the American deployment, while 250 voted against it and 19 abstained.
However, the Turkish Speaker voided the vote (NY Times, etc.) because fifty percent of legislators present did not vote in favor of the resolution, meaning that the the Bush administration's hope for a two-front war were blocked by a handful of votes.
Or, in other words, Bush's plan won the popular vote, but ultimately lost due to the constitutional finagling of a small entity. Hmm, sounds familiar.
